Tudied Tudor history at a school founded and named after Edward VI just across the oad from where Sansom himself studied at Birmingham University but had no inkling of the extent of the ebellions of 1549 We were founded in 1552But important Shardlake as a character continues to develop and the plotting is truly excellent It s #A GREAT YARN FILLED WITH SUPERB HISTORICAL INSIGHTS AND #great yarn filled with superb historical insights and Highly ecommended And with a very intelligent learned yet easily Starlight Elixirs and Cosmic Vibrational Healing readable codaeviewing the historical sources with Sansom s own well informed comments Oh did I say Highly Authority Affiliate Marketing recommended Not my favorite by a long shot It starts off as a mystery handed to Shardlake by the Lady Elizabeth not yet even close to becoming ueen It is a task fraught with danger to both taken on with trepidation So far so good but then the mystery gets lost occasionallyesurrected in a few side pages so that we can get to the true desire of the writer which is the Kett Using Twitter For Business (Stuff Made Simple Book 4) rebellion This bogs down terribly in day to day descriptions of tedious camp life and theesulting narrative is eually tedious I found myself skimming or skipping sectionsMaybe I just prefer court intrigue of which there was precious little and this book didn t do much for me I found it slow going Disappointing The wait for the next book in the Shardlake series has been well worth it This is a Anatomy of the Orchestra real blockbuster and C J Sansom for my money is a truly superb storyteller It just doesn t get any betterEngland s monarchy is at a crossroads following the death of Henry VIII the country is bankrupt theegent prince Edward is being manipulated by various nobles all of whom are keen to gain power There s constant plotting and intrigue to discredit individuals including the young Princess Elizabeth The political and How to make Money with Porn religious divides are causing uncertainty and deep fear at every level Currency has been debased there s growing civil unrest as common land is enclosed by the nobility and people struggle to surviveShardlake encounters his old enemy Richard Rich This is a long book I kept checking how far through I d got and it never seemed to progress very much I have loved the previous Shardlake books with their combination of murder political intrigue historical authenticity and a great central character This book starts out in similar vein but then along comes Kett and hisebellion and suddenly we are into a whole historical eimagining which does ather plod along before the murder mystery finally gets sortedI am sure Shardlake fans like me will persevere and find much to enjoy but this isn t a book to win over new converts Full marks to Sansom the historian for meticulous The Wind on the Heath research see last 10% of the book and for bringing Kett sebellion to a wider audience Clearly a personal passion but I feel in this instance the editors have given him Get Up and Do It! rather too much historical licence to the detriment of the story. Er daughter the lady Elizabeth The gruesome murder of one of Elizabeth's distantelations Repeat Performance rud to be politically murdered draws Shardlake and his companion Nicholas to the lady's summer estate where a second murder is committedAs the kingdom explodes intoebellion Nicholas is imprisoned for his loyalty and Shardlake must decide where his loyalties lie with his kingdom or with his lady.
